Team Southampton had a successful day at the National Cross Country Relays on saturday despite having a very early start in order to travel all the way to Mansfield to compete . The U15 boys placed highest Southampton team on the day with a very creditable 17th place in their age group race. Renato Veraj (pictured) ran the fastest time on the second leg for the team in 6.46, with Scott Legg (6.47) and Chris Dennis (7.01) also performing well, particularly as a number of the team are still first years in their age group. It promises well for next year!

The U17 women finished in 21st with Charlotte Benning running the fastest leg (9.55) to anchor the team home. The Bowers sisters Lucy (9.59) and Jodie (10.13) ran the first and second legs respectively. Coral Macey ran a time of 10.22 on the first leg of an incomplete team.

In the Senior womens race Heather Buckingham led the team off and ran the fastest leg in 11.02 over a longer 3km course. Sam Stewart (second picture) ran the second leg (in 12.08)and Laura Brenton (who made the short trip to Mansfield from Loughborough where she has recently started at University) made the team up and brought them home in 23rd place out of the 75 teams competing.

The Under 17 boys team came in 48th place and consisted of Jon Slade (10.24), Chris Hamp (10.29) and Adam Justice (10.36).

Louise Webb suffered a fall on the first leg of the U15 girls race but recovered well to finish a creditable 7th on her leg in a time of 7.27 (third picture) This position was maintained after a strong run by Michelle Hallett (7.41) and Katrina Brace (8.39) had a good run to finish in 24th place overall out of 66 teams.

Team Southampton compete again in Cross country this Sunday in the Wessex league in Salisbury
