Report on SEAA Road Relays at Rushmoor Arena

Southampton AC ladies finish 5th overall in a very high end competition. Both teams were competing against a strong field, including many international runners. Ceri Mitchell produced a fantastic 1st leg running in 13.00 and in 3rd position, Aiya Abe ran second leg in 14.13, team captain Nicci Blandford ran 3rd leg in 14.14 both maintaining 4th position for the team, last leg was Laura Brenton in 13.52 finishing 5th overall after a well fought leg with Shaftesbury Barnet. All four runners ran personal bests for the course. Ceri finished an impressive 5th fastest on the day. The B team showed just as much passion and finished 28th overall (Natalie Burke, Cat Witcombe, Claire Gallant and Lorna Miller). The Senior Mens team achieved their objective by qualifying for the National 6 stage final finishing in 25th position. Steve Phillips led the team off with an impressive 18.45 to be followed by Jamie Knapp 20.35 Matt Hibberd 20.14 Russell Osborne 20.46 Alex Wall Clarke 20.54 and finally an impressive 20.06 by Tom Muddiman. The Senior B team finished in 50th place overall. As usual there was the usual strong representation from Southampton AC in the veterans events with the Male Vet 40 team finishing 10th overall, the Male Vet 50 team finishing 16th and for the first time for many years a male vet 60 team finishing 7th.

The Young Athletes team performance of the day was in the U15 boy’s category where the A team took a superb 3rd place and earned themselves bronze medals in a field of 190 athletes. Peter Ellis led them out in the 19th quickest individual time of the day backed up by great runs by Jamie Abrahams on the 2nd leg and Lucas Clements on the 3rd leg. George Butler ran a magnificent last leg to bring the team home 3rd in the 7th quickest individual time of the day. Byron Hale, Matt Cousins & Alex Prinsep all ran well in an incomplete B team. The U13 boys came home 18th led out by Luke Powell. Harry Butler ran the 2nd leg, with Sam Costley taking the 3rd and Owen Lawrence running the last leg.

The U17 men came home in 21st place with Niall Holt, Alex Ruggles, David Fisher and Jack Lynch running in that order. The U13 girls A team finished 14th with Jessie Tucker and Aimee Coppin both making their road running debuts for the club taking the 1st & 2nd leg respectively with Lizzie Payne bringing the team home in an impressive time under 9 minutes. The B team were 62nd with Eleanor Prinsep, Emily Tubb and Rosie Lynch all making their debuts for the club.

The U15 A team finished an impressive 11th with Caitlin Stewart, Alana Spiers and Briallen Taylor all running under 12 minutes in that order. The B team were 57th with Abbie Fisher running the first leg and Hollie Branson the last with Mia Trythall making her Southampton AC debut on leg 2. Following the most successful track season in years the stage is now set for the forthcoming Cross Country season which starts on the 8th of October at Farley Mount where expectations are high throughout the age ranges.
