Race report by Owen

A very enjoyable event taking place in part on the 'Devils Highway'just south of Reading. Run consisted of a 5km circuit and was a mostly on quiet country lanes with about a 2km off road but on hardpacked gravel. No big hills but undulating enough to test the legs. The 4 lap bike course was also mostly in the lanes which apart from one section gave some shelter from the brisk wind. No major climbs on the course but a few undulations and the road was still wet from overnight rain so care needed to be taken on the corners.

Approx 40 people started the race so not a big field but there were a fair few serious looking athletes and also some bike porn racked up in transition. Friendly and efficient organisation and marshalling, not many races I've been to where the organiser offers to make you a tea after finishing and while waiting for other competitors to come in:-)
I managed to get into T1 in 2nd place but lost two spots on the bike leg to some very strong cyclists who also passed the early leader. Still felt good on the 2nd run but 5k wasn't enough to catch those ahead. Sally and Jo (former SAC member) also running and cycling well despite Sally shouting "Death is catching me" on each of the bike laps. Think the guy passing her on one of them was rather surprised!
Also great support from Ursula and Chris which was much appreciated.
