Distances: 3.8km swim + 112 mile Cycle + 26.2 mile Run
A new addition to the Ironman calendar and one that by all accounts is one of the toughest out there.
Swim was intended to be in South Beach Tenby but 10ft surf and strong winds meant it had to be moved to the more sheltered North Beach. This change did mean a 1km run through the town for the athletes to get to their bikes.
Bike course was described as "brutal", large amount of climbing with one hill a 16% gradient (tackled twice) and the descents were steep and technical. Run was a 4 lap course around Tenby (also hilly!). Most of the town had come out to support the event to give a great atmosphere. Also supporting were Sally & Kevin Gilbert, Trevor, Kerry Gregory and Becky Mulley. A long day in itself leaving Southampton before 4:00am.
