Southampton AC sent 4 age group teams and 2 senior men's teams to the English National cross country relay championships held at the usual venue of Berry Park in Mansfield on the 5th November. The races were held in atrocious conditions with heavy rain making the course a true test of stamina.
The performance of the day came from the u15 boys team who took a magnificent 4th place from the 98 teams that took part. Peter Ellis ran a fine 1st leg running the 2km course in under 7 mins to hand over 10th to teammate Lucas Clements who ran a 7 min 15 sec leg to maintain the teams position handing over in 11th. George Butler then ran an outstanding leg to bring the team up to a 4th place finish. George's time of 6 mins 41 secs was the 4th fastest of the 250 boy field and by far the fastest of the younger school year 9 of the U15 age group.
The team of 2 U15 girls ran fine races with Alana Spiers running an excellent time of 7 mins 48 secs to finish 18th in the leg. Abbie Fisher then ran 8 mins 15 secs to make up a place to 17th. The team were however incomplete with only 2 runners.
The U13 girls came home 37th. Rosie Lynch & Aimee Coppin both ran well in under 9 mins before Lizzie Payne ran a superb sub 8 minute leg to bring the team home in 37th making up an amazing 20 places in the process.
The senior mens 'a' team came home 46th with this time 4 runners over a 5 km course. Steve Phillips led the team out with an excellent sub 17 minute time. He was ably backed up by Alex Wall-Clarke and Tom Muddiman who both ran sub 18 minute 30 secs and Jeremy Curtis who was sub 19 minutes.
The U17 men all ran solid races over the 3km course. Niall Holt led the team out in 10 mins 16 secs followed by Alex Ruggles in 10 mins 45 secs and David Fisher in 10 mins 27 secs with the team finishing 49th. The senior mens 'b' team consisted of Jamie Knapp who ran a fine first leg in 17 mins 45 secs followed by will Davies in 18 mins 31 secs and Martin Johnson in 18 mins 13 secs. The team were however incomplete with only 3 runners.
