There were some excellent individual results for Team Southampton at the South of England Track and Field championships on the 28th and 29th of May. The championships are held annually between the 19 counties in the South and this year were held at Portsmouth's Mountbatten stadium over the bank holiday weekend.

Top performer for the club was Louise Webb who continued her very impressive run of form on the track this summer by taking the title in the under 15 girls 1500 metres. Webb controlled the race throughout, breaking free from the rest with 500 metres to go to come home in a personal best performance time of 4 minutes 36.89 seconds. She finished 3 seconds ahead of a classy field which included the National Cross Country champion, Charlotte Purdue from Aldershot who came in second place making it a one-two for Hampshire in the event. Webb's run puts her third place in the UK rankings currently and follows on from her strong perfomances at the Hampshire championships two weeks before, when she captured both the 800m and 1500m county titles, setting a championship best ever performance in the latter.

Rebecca Gough again produced a powerful race, despite the strong winds she was running against on the Saturday, obtaining another medal for the club in the Southern Championships when she competed over 1500m in the under 17 women age group. She finished in a very creditable 3rd place behind Aldershot's Stephanie Twell who represented Great Britain at the European cross country championships this winter.

In the mens races Ben Richardson sprinted powerfully to take a second place position in the U20 110m hurdles to give Team Southampton a Silver medal.

The club also had a number of other finalists over the weekend including Catriona Witcombe and Eve Selby who both narrowly missed out on medals, coming 4th in the U17 300m Hurdles and U15 Javelin respectively. Other finalists included Scott Gallant and Jamie Knapp (U15 boys 1500m), Alex Wall-Clarke (U20 Men's 800m), Sasha Mucci (U20 Women's 800m), Lizzie Dunn (U15 girls Discus), Vicky Burgess (U20W 100m), Nicole Gough (U20W 100m Hurdles).

The club's next fixtures are a double header for the young women this weekend with a Southern Womens match at Abingdon on Saturday and a national Young athletes fixture at the Southampton sports centre on Sunday from 12.00 noon.
