Based in the beautiful open spaces of Lordswood, Southampton Athletic Club has a deep and rich history dating back to 1927 when the Hampshire Amateur Athletics Club was formed. Through many incarnations and name changes the club has excelled on the track, in the field, over cross country and on the road, producing many Olympians and national champions.
Our Academy introduces young athletes to the fundamentals of the sport, with our qualified coaches helping with the basics of running, jumping and throwing. Teaching the movements and techniques that will prepare them for the future.
At senior level we have training groups and experienced coaches to cover each discipline. Whether you are pole vaulter or a steeplechase, a sprinter or an ultra runner, a triple jumper or a hammer thrower, (or a combination of all of them!) we have a squad for you to join.
The club provides competition for all levels. Starting with our popular open meetings where athletes of all ages can try out new events or test themselves in their favourite ones.
On the track, we compete in a number of regional and national leagues.
For the juniors we have the Wessex and Youth Development Leagues, and at senior level we compete in the top divisions of the newly formed National Athletic League (NAL) (a combination of the men’s British Athletics League and UK Women’s League) and Southern Athletics League (SAL).
We also compete in the Hampshire Cross Country league and a number of regional and national XC and road competitions.
For athletes over 35, either still competing or perhaps coming back to the sport after some years away, we provide excellent ‘Masters’ competition.
Our track and field team have won the Hampshire league for the last 9 years and the Southern counties title for 3 of them. Many of our masters go on to compete nationally and internationally.
