Southampton Athletic Club won a record number of medals at the County Championships held at a very muddy Fairthorne Manor with clubs from around the county competing for the much prised medals.
Starting with the youngest age group it was gold for the U11 girls with Rhyseren Taylor Emily Churcher Eve Bailey and Emerson Churcher
and for the boys a fine bronze medal with Thomas Dyer William Blount Scott Fossa and Niclas Olley
Moving up to the Under 13 age group it was Gold all the way with the girls led by individual winner Annie Mann and closely followed by Robyn Fossa Katie Youp and Celia Brabazon to win team gold.
Likewise the boys with individual winner Ben Brown leading home the team in first place followed by Josh Homer George Lambert and Alistair Higgins
In the under 15 girls race a superb run by Isabelle Hinkley secured yet another individual gold medal
The gold rush continued with the under 17 boys with Zakariya Mahamed making it look easy in a convincing win with team mates Harry O’Donoghue and Ben Williams ensuring team gold
Next to go were the Under 17 women with the team of Phoebe Moriarty-Palios Holly Powell and Aimee Raynor winning a bronze medal
Yet another team gold in the under 20 mens race with Sam Costley(individual silver) and Sam Tyas(individual bronze) with Kamran Sufizada completing the winning team
In the senior ladies race Louise Small (Aldershot Farnham & District) completed her hat trick of wins in this event with Laura Brenton running a fine race to finish runner up with a silver medal. Laura was ably backed up by Sarah Kingston Anna Sharp and Jordon Folk to win the silver team medal.
The senior men’s race is always closely contested and the Southampton team were missing Mahamed Mahamed and last years winner Alex Teuten who are both representing Great Britain at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country next weekend. However this did not stop the team winning the gold medal with Matthew Revier returning to great form with an individual bronze medal behind Matt Sharp (Team Spy) and Lee Merrien (Guernsey)_The team was completed by Matthieu Marshall Jonathon Roberts Max Costley Andy Morgan-Lee and Tom Cully
As normal the male veteran category’s were closely contested with again Southampton AC winning the team gold medal with Andy Morgan Lee(individual over 45 Gold) James Smith Robin Bentley making his debut for the club (individual over 50 Gold) and Paul Johnson completing the team
A very successful day for the club throughout the age groups which bodes well for the future of the club
