1st Man: Rich Waldron (SAC) SM 25.59
1st Woman: Kath Bailey (Winchester) F50 29.59
81 Scott Augur V50 32.46
The first race of the 2018/19, the Overton 5, kicked off in baking hot conditions. Two of Southampton AC’s athletes put in an appearance. Scott Augur has been continuing his good form into his fifties, whilst it was third time lucky for Rich Waldron in taking victory after two previous failed attempts, thwarted consecutively by England athletes Mahamed Mahamed (SAC) and Matt Sharp.
And talking of baking hot, there was a great selection of homemade cakes available including the weird but tasty cake that included courgette in its ingredients. What’s that all about?

*NOTE Fleet and Alresford races have replaced Eastleigh and Hayling.
Hayling was initially drafted back into the league as a temporary measure but isn’t a road race (multi terrain) which technically disqualifies it from the league however this race is my personal favourite and has much to recommend it, whilst Eastleigh though being a must do race for many, particularly Southampton’s quicker athletes, is run by a private enterprise not a running club therefore going against probably the most important ethos of the HRRL that is to support the league clubs of Hampshire**. Fleet is a massive race already but is a great way of getting yourself ready for the London Marathon whilst the Alresford 10k is a far smaller race so would particularly benefit from our support. A few years ago runners were rewarded with some cress from the local Alresford cress beds, a unique prize.
**Yes Salisbury is in Wiltshire, Wiltshire doesn’t have a road league.
