The Gosport Half Marathon course is by common consent mentally testing through being a double lap mundane course but what it lacks in excitement is more than compensated for by its speed when weather conditions allow and today was such a day with no less than four Southampton athletes achieving a personal best . Perhaps the most notable being Andrew Lewis who has had an excellent Autumn crashing through the 80 minute barrier at Gosport for the first time and that followed on from a great Great South Run performance in October.
The mens race was won by Dan Eckersley who triumphed through persistence emerging victorious after finishing in runner up position both in 2017 and 2018. For approximately eight miles Southampton’s Max Costley led the race until being overhauled .
The ladies race was won by Louise Damen who though well off her best still has the class to defeat the field. Not initially picked up in the results Jen Granger ran a superb race to garner a personal best and came a tantalising eleven seconds from eclipsing Bryher Bowness S.A.C club record for the Gosport Half and formally overall course record.
The mens team position in Division 1 will be reported when known.
