It was a momentous day in Southampton Athletic Clubs history as Southampton’s Ladies promoted as champions (2016/17) and moving into Division 1 (2017/18) faced Winchester in the penultimate race of the HRRL knowing that a victory in the team event at Eastleigh would secure the championship. Winchester had a strong team but the game was up once Louise Damen dropped out. It was a double as Jen Elkins who had just arrived back in Southampton on the morning of the race alighting from a cruise , cruised round to secure victory in the ladies race. It was particularly appropriate that Sarah Kingston and Bryher Bowness made up the Southampton ladies team as both have secured many points during the course of the season and Sarah was instrumental in creating the outstanding ladies team. Bryher capped off a great day with a P.B too. Tracey Corker has been a prime contributor too running at more HRRL events than any other lady.

But for the ladies brilliant news the headlining performance would have been that of Aiden Lennan recording a sensational time and 3rd overall . Zak Mahamed was the second Southampton athlete home with a 45 second P.B. Ben Williams an Under 17 athlete looks like a real prospect with a 38.09. The men have been inconsistent over the season but at least there are no relegation issues to worry about.
