The Ryde 10 took place in windy and freezing conditions though thankfully it was dry. The course was altered for the second time in recent years including a short section of beach and a run through a holiday camp although the course profile still resembled a Tour de France Alpine Stage.
Two runners experienced shocks in the closing stages of the race with our own Bryher Bowness taking a fall and ending up in the back of an ambulance (ankle) whilst a border collie took exception to being passed by a Hardley V70 attaching itself to Mick Anglims left arm with 400m to go. The dog didn’t finish.
Southampton ladies executed a fine smash and grab with another team victory moving ever closer to the Division 1 title whilst the Southampton men consisting of two did well Dan Baker claiming the scalp of Lordshills finest Ben Pitman and Mark West ostensibly at Ryde to run as preparation for a marathon found he couldn’t hold back and exceeded expectations.
The League moves on to Eastleigh 10k in March (sorry its full) as is Salisbury 10 following on in April.
