HRRL RACE 6 RYDE 10 6 FEB 2022

1st Man Max Costley 54.49 (Southampton AC) 1st Lady Tasmin Anderson** Winchester & District AC) *21 ** In entries listed as Simmonds 480 Finishers

Max Costley was the sole Southampton representative at the Ryde10 and he duly made a point by defeating Matt Sharp . On paper Matt was the odds on favourite (PB 48.35 2017) compared to Max (PB 54.15 2016) but that did not matter on the day as Max had opened up a gap of over a minute by the end of the race. Incidentally for anybody who is not impressed with the winning time note that there were only 8 athletes who broke the one hour barrier and the race includes 4 climbs , the second of which is savage and is already becoming legendary following course tweaks. A remarkable thing happened at the race as multiple gold Paralympian Rachel Morris (cycling/rowing) competed at definitely the least ‘wheelchair friendly’ race in the HRRL calendar and completed the course in a respectable time (1.44.44). An amazing feat though speaking to her briefly after the race it appeared that she considered it all in a days work. That was possibly due to the long list of her previous achievements. Check out Rachel’s Wikipedia page if interested. Hopefully this can be the catalyst that opens up other road races to wheelchair athletes . Incidentally Rachel competes for Farnham Runners.
The next race in the HRRL calendar is the Salisbury 10 3rd April 2022. It is already SOLD OUT.
